The Mt. Pinatubo eruption, the worst volcanic eruption of the 20th century, placed the Philippines especially Central Luzon in a most difficult situation. It displaced thousands of Filipinos, destroyed their homes as well as their properties, and exposed them to serve psychological traumas. The displaced Filipinos practically lost everything except the hope that one day, they will live a normal life again. The eruption has deprived them of the only life they know.
In an attempt to address the problems brought about by the volcanic eruption, the College of Science of the De La Salle University ventured on a project known as “BD-INFO: OPERATION PINATUBO ’91.” BD stands for Baseline-Data. The objective of the project was to establish a data bank on the Pinatubo disaster that will serve as a source of all relevant statistics for the ecologists, economists, environmentalists and for social welfare purposes.
